POSITION SUMMARY:
OpenStack@Cisco is an emerging initiative at Cisco focused on working with the OpenStack community to create game changing open source cloud infrastructure software. Cisco's objectives include providing leadership in the definition and development of network capabilities in OpenStack, insuring that OpenStack installations can take advantage of Cisco's industry leading compute and networking technologies, and playing a role in the success of the OpenStack project and ecosystem as a whole.

We are seeking great developers who are interested in joining our OpenStack based Cloud project, responsible for developing a highly scalable Cloud platform based on OpenStack. As a key member of this team, you will be working in a collaborative "startup like" model with a team of recognized experts. This is an excellent opportunity to become a key contributor to OpenStack projects, while creating the next generation of network-centric cloud architectures.

This Senior Software Engineer will have the following responsibilities:
â ¢ Define, develop and contribute open source software in support of Cisco's cloud platform.
â ¢ Define and develop platform life cycle management services and processes to simplify usability of the platform.
â ¢ Actively contributing to the cloud platform technical strategy, architecture, and software lifecycle management processes, as well as development, integration and QA plans.
â ¢ Actively engage the OpenStack community and other relevant open source work efforts to ensure alignment of Cisco contributions to those projects.
â ¢ Influence others to support the cloud platform initiative, and help grow the extended team, both external and internal to Cisco.
â ¢ Engage with customers, partners and developers as required to support the Cloud platform and its roadmap.
â ¢ Communicate with stakeholders and team members to provide regular updates on progress and issues to address.

This position reports to the Director responsible for Engineering for this Cloud platform, as part of Cisco's Cloud CTO team.

The ideal candidate will have a unique blend of superior knowledge of developing open source software based systems and experience with cloud infrastructure development. He/she will have significant engineering experience in setting technical requirements, architecture, designing, developing and delivering system software platforms. Relevant experience must include successfully delivering a large emerging systems software development project on schedule.


The ideal candidate must be passionate about working on a fast paced team, and dedicated to making great things happen. Required Experience, Skills, and Characteristics include:
â ¢ Bachelor or Master Degree in CS/EE, or equivalent experience is required. Any other demonstrated high technology aptitude is desired.
â ¢ 10+ years of software platform development experience, with 4+ years of this being relevant experience in web-based scalable systems platform software design and development.
â ¢ Strong coding skills with emphasis on writing modular and scalable code in python. Experience with other web programming environments, such as Java or Ruby on Rails is desirable.
â ¢ Direct experience with Linux Kernel software and related infrastructure.
â ¢ Knowledge and experience with OpenStack, OpenNebula or a similar Cloud infrastructure platform is highly desirable.
â ¢ Project experience with agile/spiral development and other state-of-the-art development processes and tools.
â ¢ Experience with and interest in open source software communities and active participation in OpenStack projects.
â ¢ Experience working with product managers to define requirements and usability of systems software.
â ¢ Ability to write tutorials/documentation and give presentations to customers and partners.
â ¢ Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills.
â ¢ Strong ability to influence others and build consensus using good written and verbal communication skills and customer facing skills.
