To follow is what is required/expected of those who are hired for the position of Team 61 DCC Support Driver:
Position Description:
• This position is primarily responsible for safely driving a commercial motor vehicle. Responsibilities include: compliance with safety and DOT regulations, continuous training, and customer service skills. Other expectations include an understanding that the position is one that requires a “go anywhere, do anything attitude”, responsible for temporarily filling an open driver position at a moment’s notice.
Position Specific Responsibilities:
• This position will primarily support the DCC and FSL operation in IL,WA, UT, TX, IN, MI, OH and PA, BUT must be able to occasionally cover overnight stays UP TO 6 NIGHTS and assignments at locations within Team 61. Must be able to cover various start times and shifts. Candidate will cover location absences, vacations, disabilities and business spikes. Must be able to handle various types of freight, steel experience a plus.
• The requirements of a support driver are as follows:
1. Communication:
a. If not scheduled on a given day, must be available for route coverage as needed.
b. Refusal of any given assignment is considered as refusal to work, and can be considered as grounds for termination.
c. The drivers will be responsible for contacting their manager on a regular basis. Specifically; if the driver has not been placed on the schedule, they must report to their manager once every three workdays. Failure to report to the manager may be construed as possible job abandonment. If contact with the manager has not been made within three days following the required reporting day, the termination process for job abandonment will begin.
2. Safety: accident and injury free.
3. Reliable/punctual.
4. Hard worker, ability to quickly learn. Accounts will require the ability to PULL FLAT-BED, operate a powered hand truck, lift-gate, tarp, strap, and chain steel.
a. Must be willing and physically capable to hand unload freight, lift 20 to 70 lbs when necessary.
5. Flexibility: must be able to work any shift, which may include weekends.
6. Must be able to cover as part of a team route.
7. Must be able and willing to work at various accounts, which will include both local and over the road assignments-some over the road routes that can be 2-6 days long.
a. Some accounts on Team 61 are: Alro Steel (steel), CVS, Lennox, Milliken Millworks, Latrobe Steel, Do It Best, Swagelok, Amico, Norwesco, Wayne Dalton, PCC, Haas Door (Overhead Garage Doors), For Hire, etc.
8. Must be able to accept out of town assignments as they arise, which can include assignment to various accounts in Grand Rapids MI, Cleveland OH, Pittsburg PA, Lorain OH, Latrobe PA, Dundee MI, Lansing MI, Orem UT, Fife WA, Toledo OH, Wauseon OH, Findlay OH, and Detroit MI area, etc.
a. Out of town assignment requires driving to said location in one’s personal vehicle.
b. Personal mileage is reimbursable after the first 50 miles per day at the current rate, which is .55/mile. If necessary, mileage may be derived from the PC Miler Program
c. Layover/pay is $25.00 per night out.
d. Hotel is reimbursable we pay if no sleeper cab is available must have receipts
9. Must maintain highest standards of professionalism while with customers.
10. Must wear company issued uniforms and maintain good hygiene.
11. Must wear all PPE while on the job. (Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, etc.)
12. Must turn in paperwork daily or by weeks end.
13. Must maintain daily logs, train on PeopleNet systems, and turn in weekly (by the Wednesday of the following week).
14. Maintain standards set forth in employee handbook.
15. Guarantee pay of 40hrs per week.
Responsibilities: This position is primarily responsible for safely driving a commercial vehicle and requires compliance with safety & DOT Regulations, continuous training and customer service.
Additional Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Ensuring compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines
- Detecting and eliminating or minimizing safety hazards
- Maintaining accurate records and logs
- Loading/Unloading freight or assisting in the loading/unloading of freight if required by customer
- Other tasks as assigned
