I. Position Summary

 

Provide expertise and support to the Plant in quality related issues.  This includes day to day administration of HACCP, GMP, and other QA programs to ensure outstanding performance and compliance with internal and external regulations.  Act as QA expert to support the plant management team and other in-plant teams to assist them in improving performance and decreasing quality related issues, holds, etc. 

Il. Position Responsibilities

 

1.      Responsible for intensively evaluating raw materials, work in process and finished goods to monitor quality of products.  Work closely with all departments (maintenance, production, R&D, purchasing) to identify and rectify any quality defects in products. Provides feedback to the site through regular communication and works to a decrease in customer complaints.

 

2.      Provide technical support to manufacturing and R&D as required to assess Quality of finished product. This could involve product testing as required.

 

3.      Investigate customer complaints and forward written response to customer service.

 

4.      Co-ordinate with outside warehouse to ensure product is dispositioned as per QA instructions in a timely manner. Monthly held lot report is issued to production and upper management. Report is used to track product quality KPI.

 

5.      Investigate all product quality non-conformances. Assist in Consumer Safety investigations as required.

 

6.      Be aware of allergen issues that may affect Consumer Safety when entering formulas into SAP.  Incorrect entry may cause wrong ingredients to be added and result in an allergen problem.

 

7.      Assist production in investigating Defective Materials and in follow up with suppliers.

 

8.      Responsible for communicating Consumer Safety issues so that prompt corrective action is taken.

 

9.      Perform mock recalls or traceability exercises.

 

10.  Organoleptic, analytical and physical testing of raw materials, work in process and finished products.

 

11.  Microbiology testing when required for covering vacation and sick days.

IV.  Scope

 

 

This position helps to drive the quality culture for the site - 120 hourly and 40 salaried employees. 

 

V. Knowledge


Education


Bachelors Degree and/or a diploma in a quality related field (i.e. Microbiology)

 

 

Experience

3-5 years experience managing QA systems/compliance in a food manufacturing environment. 

 

VI. Skills


 

1.      Knowledge of QA systems, microbiology, HACCP, GMP is critical.

2.      TPM and Certification in Acidified Foods Manufacturing is ideal.

3.      Excellent written and verbal skills. 

4.      Demonstrated ability to support large-scale change activities.

5.      Excellent computer skills including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook is a must.

6.      Knowledge on CFIA-FSEP/ISO requirements is an asset.
