A company car is an extremely popular perk or fringe benefit for company owners and key employees. The use of an employer-owned car for personal use is an item of noncash compensation to the employee. The rules that determine how much this compensation is, and what can be deducted by the employer are extremely complex -- enough to make you consider giving the employee a laptop instead of a company car.

Workers' compensation for on-the-job injuries has been mandated for nearly 100 years, and although claims in the manufacturing sector have declined since the advent of the U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration, employee fraud and employer non-compliance continue to plague state systems.
About 40 percent of money spent or contracted in the renovation of Kauffman and Arrowhead stadiums has gone to businesses owned by minorities or women. The participation of those companies exceeds the 30-percent goal of the Royals, the Chiefs and the Jackson County Sports Complex Authority, although figures will fluctuate as construction continues into 2010.
The credit crunch hasn't stopped small business. The number of small business loans outstanding under $1 million increased by 15% between June 2006 and June 2007, according to a report released today by the Office of Advocacy of the U.S. Small Business Administration. A subset of loans--those between $100,000 and $1 million--increased more than twice as much, by almost 32%. The total dollar value of small business loans increased by about 8%. Smaller loans under $100,000, which include many business credit card loans, increased in total dollar value by 9.4%.
