As Harrah's Entertainment chief diversity officer, the 51-year-old executive has spent the past few years developing a model for promoting and using diversity beyond race and gender. Keeton has spent countless hours working to develop a comprehensive theory that moves corporate diversity beyond just complying with a law into an idea of commerce: attracting the best and most divergent talent to help business profit.
Despite the claims by many companies that diversity is a priority, few companies have a clear definition of what diversity means. A study by the Society for Human Resource Management indicates that for most companies, diversity is a nebulous concept.
U.S. discount brokerage Charles Schwab Corp said on Monday it would cut about 100 jobs immediately and more in the future to reduce annual expenses by up to 8 percent. The company, which also announced a 4 percent decline in total client assets last month, said the 100 jobs are mostly senior management. Further cuts in service staff, marketing and development projects will come in the first half of 2009, it said.
