The automotive industry is dumping jobs faster than a NASCAR racer can accelerate. Car sales are reeling from tight credit and declining consumer confidence. As a consequence, the industry –- from auto dealers to parts suppliers to the big three car manufacturers –- have made major cuts in their workforce, reports the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Such layoffs especially affect minority workers, since car manufacturing has traditionally offered minorities an entry path to solid high-paying blue-collar jobs.

Planned layoffs at U.S. firms eased in December from the previous month's seven-year high but they were up an astounding 275 percent annually as the year-old recession cut a huge swathe of destruction through job market.
Officials from HITEC (the Hispanic IT Executive Council) unveiled its first annual HITEC 100 list which recognizes the nation's top Hispanic executives and rising stars within information technology in the previous year. This year's 100 were selected out of more than 300 nominations by an independent four-member panel of judges.
The FBI says it's going on a hiring blitz, posting job openings for 850 special agents and thousands of staffers to support law enforcement activities.
