The economy is the top issue among Americans, while global warming lingers at the bottom, according to a Pew Study released this week.
The study, called Public's Priorities for 2010: Economy, Jobs, Terrorism, states that jobs and terrorism also top the public consciousness.
According to the survey, the percentage of the public who believed job creation should be a top priority in the last decade fluctuated in the 1960s, but it spiked to 82 percent in 2009 and stands at 81 percent in the current survey.
When it comes to the economy, Republicans, Democrats and Independents all feel equally strong in ranking it as a top priority.
As the focus on the budget and economy has increased, the nation's interest in the state of energy has dropped. About half 49 percent say that dealing with the nation's energy problem should be a top priority, down from 60 percent a year ago, according to the survey.
In fact global warming has plummeted from the No. 1 issue in 2007 to last in 2010.
Concerns about health care reform are also down. In 2007, it was at 68 percent and 69 percent in 2008, but in 2009, reforming health care costs was at 57 percent.
About six-in-ten Americans say securing the Social Security system (66%) and securing the Medicare system (63%) should be top priorities for Obama and Congress. About 65 percent said that improving the educational system should be a top policy priority.
