Companies With Formal Diversity Recruitment Efforts Hire More Hispanics

Organizations with a formal diversity recruiting effort have proved to be better able to hire diverse candidates, according to a new survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
Companies with formal diversity recruitment effort hired Hispanics, who earn 7.2 percent of all bachelor degrees conferred, at the rate of 8.3 percent, compared to companies with a formal effort that hired at a 4.6 percent rate.
Also of note, the survey found that:
-- About 72 percent of respondents recruit for U.S. operations only.
-- Companies with more than 1,000 employees were more likely to recruit globally.
-- 45 percent of 2010-11 entry-level hires were new college graduates, with 80 percent of the new college hires having earned a bachelor's degree.
-- Director-level positions had the highest salaries -- $118,640 on average – followed by managers, $96,010 on average. However the average director salary fell 7.7 percent compared to the 2010 survey results, while manager salaries rose 6.9 percent.
Of note for the job seeker, the survey found that:
-- More than 90 percent of the respondents use career fairs and the corporate website to brand their organizations to students.
-- On average, respo9ndents expect to attend 28.7 career fairs in the 2011-12 recruiting season.
-- By industry, information and accounting services seem to be the most reliant on hiring interviews on campus – these sectors hire more than 90 percent of their 2010-11 recruits through on campus interviews.
-- More than 85 percent of employers undertaking diversity recruiting target Hispanics, African-Americans and women.
The survey was conducted from June through August amount NACE employer members; 228 organizations, or 31 percent, took part.
NACE has been a source of information about the employment of college graduates since 1956.
