Manufacturers' News Releases List of Top U.S. Cities by Number of Industrial JobsJan 30 2012 8:16AM
According to Manufacturers' News, Houston takes the top spot for industrial employment with 235,038 manufacturing jobs, up 2.9 percent over last year. New York ranks second with 140,952 jobs, up 1.3 percent. Third-ranked Chicago accounts for 107,264, down 1.3 percent, while St. Louis accounts for 80,795, down 2.8 percent. Los Angeles accounts for the fifth-most at 79,873 jobs, down 4.5 percent. The list shows that five of the top 50 cities are located in California (Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, Irvine and Santa Clara), and five are located in Texas (Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio and Austin). According to MNI, 17 of the top 50 cities posted industrial job gains from a year ago, including Salt Lake City, up 4.3 percent; Seattle, up 3.3 percent; Charlotte, up 3.1 percent; Portland, up 2.6 percent; and Tulsa, up 2.1 percent.
