Health care employers topped the list of local online job postings in March while registered nurses tallied the most job ads, according to the state Employment Development Department's latest help-wanted online report.

The figures released Friday show three of the area's largest health networks led the way: Sutter Health, with 671 posts, Dignity Health (formerly Catholic Healthcare West), with 390 and Kaiser Permanente with 249 job ads.

Tech, staffing and retail employers filled out the list.

That continues a months-long trend. Health care networks have consistently been among the Sacramento area's top online posters.

And they continue to seek out registered nurses. In all, 1,230 job ads called for RNs, according to the EDD's report.

Computer systems analysts (835), retail sales staff (583), frontline retail managers (583) and customer service representatives (548) rounded out the list of occupations with the most job ads.

It's unclear how many of the postings will convert to hires, but the March report is a good sign.

The area's education and health services sector picked up 3,100 jobs between March 2011 and March 2012, the most of any sector, according to the EDD.

And it follows national trends.

Health care employment grew by 26,000 jobs nationwide, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Within the health care industry, doctors' offices and hospitals each added 8,000 jobs over the month.
