What Are OC's Top Workplaces?

June 18, 2013

As the definition of work changes, innovative companies large and small
have stepped up to meet new challenges and create workplaces valued by employees
for more than a paycheck.

What does a top workplace look like in 2013? We need your help to find out.

The Register invites employees at Orange County-based companies to participate
in an annual survey to identify the county's workplace leaders.

That might mean organizations that offer workers the option of flexible
schedules or that provide opportunities to learn and grow. Other businesses take
pride in setting high standards for efficiency or strong ethical values.
Everyone wants to work in a dynamic environment open to new ideas.

"Our annual Top Workplaces survey provides insight into the best of the best,"
Register Editor Ken Brusic said. "Your participation will help your organization
gain the recognition it deserves as well as provide insight and inspiration to
others."

In its fifth year, the Orange County Top Workplaces program examines
organizations with 35 or more workers. The survey has been expanded to include
private, public, nonprofit and government organizations in the county.

The company rankings are calculated by Workplace Dynamics LLC, based on
responses from employees. For the first time, companies with more than 1,000
employees nationwide also will be considered for the National Top Workplaces
program.

Survey participants are asked to complete a short questionnaire that asks them
to rate organizations on such topics as benefits, leadership, training,
compensation and workplace culture.

This year, participants also will be asked about a new issue -- whether an
employer is socially responsible in the community. For some companies, social
responsibility has become an increasingly important part of work culture,
whether it's community volunteer activities, charitable donations or sponsorship
of local programs.

Top Workplaces can be nominated by employees, organization leaders or customers.
Last year 85 organizations participated, up from 75 in 2011.

The nomination deadline is July 19. All of the organizations nominated will be listed in a special Register magazine Dec. 6 and featured in online reports.
