Ohio City Hiring Police Officers

August 23, 2013

The Lima Police Department will be hiring and is providing
tutorial sessions for the required civil service exam, Police Chief Kevin Martin

The city has four police officer openings and will hold a civil service exam to
obtain an eligibility list for hiring. The test date isn't yet set, but Martin
said he believes it will happen in late September.

In the meantime, the department is holding 13 tutorial sessions. Officers will
discuss minimum requirements and qualifications for the job, provide information
and a history of the department and the city and will also give a practice test.
Those interested need only attend one session, but are welcome to attend more
than one.

"In the past, we have held two or three of these sessions, and heard from
applicants they couldn't make the sessions. The department wanted to make these
as available as possible for people," Mayor David Berger said. "The session is
not required but it would be a great help."

People do not need peace officer training before applying, but the job does have
other requirements, including age restrictions.

The department will hold the sessions in two locations. Two sessions will be
held from 6 to 8 p.m. either Aug. 27 or Sept. 10 at Cheryl Allen Southside
Community Center. The other sessions will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursdays
beginning Aug. 29 through Sept. 19 at Rhodes State College, JJC Building, Room
174; from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursdays from Aug. 29 to Sept. 19 at Rhodes, Public
Services Building, Rooms 212 and 213; and 10 a.m. to noon, Saturdays from Aug.
31 to Sept. 14 at Rhodes, Public Service Building, Rooms 212 and 213.

For information call 419-221-5268 or see www.limapolice.com.

The city is also hiring for two other positions, construction and maintenance
worker and park ranger. Civil service exams for those jobs will be held Sept.
21. Information about the job requirements and tests is available at the
Municipal Center, 50 Town Square, or the city website, www.cityhall.lima.oh.us.
