IT Salaries Continue To Climb

Oct. 27, 2011

salaries, tech workers, on the rise

Robert Half's latest technology salary guide suggests that information technologies professionals are benefiting from the adoption and popularity of mobile and cloud technologies by businesses.

Robert Half Technology says in the salary guide that nearly half of the chief Technology officers polled indicated that they would increase the use of tablet computers (iPads, Androids, etc.), potentially enhancing the boom that the market is seeing for mobile technology professionals. The salary guide predicts that "continued growth of smartphones and tablets is heightening the demand for individuals with experience creating and organizing content for the small screen," which could result in a 9.1 percent increase in starting salary levels from 2010 (a range of $85,000 to $122,500.)

The Robert Half Technology 2012 Salary Guide also points to the following five positions as the most-wanted specialties in technology right now:

-- Systems and networking engineers, specializing in virtualization and cloud computing;

-- Developers (java, PHP, Silverlight, .NET, MySQL, etc.);

-- Quality assurance professionals and business analysts;

-- Data warehousing and business intelligence professionals;

-- Security professionals.
